I don’t know why I keep falling off the health food wagon – gah!!
OK, I do know why – I rack disciprine!! (s’what my Soldier would say. Jokingly, of course, because of the pot and kettle thing, ya know?)
Overall, I cannot complain too much; it’s been a healthy-eating summer for me for the most part. One thing, though, I cannot seem to shake is rewarding myself with food.
It’s been a stressful day? I’m having a slice of pizza!
Finished a job on time? Bust out the celebratory chocolate cookies!
While I always choose “healthified” versions of just about everything, I’d love to break the cycle of thinking of food in terms of a reward.
Old habits die hard, though, and since food is one of my biggest pleasures in life, it’s also my biggest motivator.
Back to me falling off the wagon, though. Nothing straightens you out more than a rich, creamy bowl of berry smoothie goodness!
This week, it’s back to the roots for me – meaning: I start the day with this antioxidant packed bowl of yum which motivates me to stay on track and keep it “clean” for the rest of the day.
I can’t say why but I’m more inclined to eat a smoothie bowl than drink an actual smoothie. Also, after sitting down to eat a smoothie bowl I feel like I had a meal; if I drink a smoothie, I’m like – now, what’s for breakfast?! Oh, the psychology of it all.
Having a smoothie bowl allows you to add a bunch of toppings, which is definitely a plus! When I photographed my breakfast this morning, I forgot all about cacao nibs!! Promise you’ll try this with cacao nibs – because. It’s delicious. And goes extremely well with berries!!
- 1 ripe banana, preferably frozen
- 1 cup frozen raspberries (or other berries)
- ½ cup nut milk (or water)
- ½ cup baby spinach (or baby kale)
- ¼ cup shredded coconut, unsweetened
- ½ tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- Optional: 1 tablespoon almond butter
- Fresh berries
- Chia seeds
- Pumpkin seeds
- Cacao nibs
- Goji berries
- Add all ingredients into a blender and process until smooth.
- Pour into serving bowl and garnish with fresh berries, chia and pumpkin seeds, Goji berries and cacao nibs. Enjoy!
