Well, excuuuse me for being so cheerful but it’s been a pretty sweet December so far and it’s about to get better: My soldier and I are are going on a mini vacation out West!
West North Carolina, that is. I know what you were thinking! So, zoom back in on your Google map, we’re staying local!
All I want is a little bit of snow for Christmas. Luckily, you don’t have to travel too far to enjoy some winter magic in our home state of North Carolina.
While I’m packing gaiters, ear muffs and wool socks, I’m sipping on some Cranberry Bourbon Sour and ahhhh – I couldn’t ask for more!
Whiskey Sour (or Bourbon Sour) has been my favorite drink for quite some time.
The simple combination of bourbon, lemon juice and syrup, when balanced right, is without question one of the best cocktails I have laid my hands (eyes and lips) on!
We’ve been infusing maple syrup (which we use instead of simple syrup) with cinnamon which adds a wonderful spicy note to it but I wanted more! More Christmas, more cheer!
Most of us ladies know cranberry juice primarily as a home remedy for much dreaded UTIs. While there are conflicting reports on whether cranberry juice is all that effective in curing or preventing UTIs, more recent studies show that drinking cranberry juice does indeed positively influence the urinary track system (Naturophaths 1 – Big Pharma 0).
Allow me to encapsulate: Cranberry juice = eternal health (not quite but you get the gist).
Cranberry juice is refreshingly tart and a little bit sour. I will drink cranberry juice straight up if I have to but honestly, it’s not the most pleasant experience! Mixing cranberry juice with oaky bourbon and sweet maple syrup though, will make your taste buds tingle with delight!
As always, it’s the simple things in life that bring the most joy.
Last but not least, the view from the grand dining table to the Christmas tree!
